Those, whom the Creator Lord would destroy - first He strips them of virtue

Satnaam Satguru Satsangat ji,

Dandauth Bandhana Ji,

 

whilst reading through Guru Nanak Ji's divine verses, the following line struck me

 

"ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਖੁਸਿ ਲਏ ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ॥੩॥ (417)

Those, whom the Creator Lord would destroy - first He strips them of virtue. ||3||"   SGGS 417

 

On one side we have SatGuru Ji's divine teachings that to be God's virtuous wife (GUNN-VANTI) we need to collect the 32 virtues and wear them as necklace to please our Husband, the Lord Himself.  So we strive to collect these virtues like kindness, forgiveness, humbleness and so on.   Also we know we are only capable of doing this because we have been blessed with Gurprasad - God's grace through our Guru.  And before even receiving the Grace (Gurprasad) in person from our Guru, we also know it only happened because God decided that it was time for our particular soul to come back to Him - so He Himself gave the order in His Royal Court (Dargah) and cast His favourable glance (NADAR) upon us. Here are the steps :

 

1) due to our accumulation of good deeds, God decided we would be saved and gave the order in God's court,

2) He Himself came to us in the form of the Guru at the time and place set by God Himself  ("Bhaag hoa gur-sant milaayaa"..Guru Ram Das ji).  

3) He Himself arranged all the opportunities for us to collect the 32 virtues (GUNNs) by arranging for us to have holy congregation (sat-sangat), divine email forums, divine websites, Gurdwaras to do service and so on,

4) when we are completely virtuous , He Himself takes us into His embrace as His wife (suhagan) and the wife forever (Sada Suhagan) - no chance of divorcing God! No chance of falling back into Maya's hands.

 

But, the opposite is also true.  How do some souls come to destruction?  It also starts with God's command and that is what Guru Nanak Dev ji is explaining to us.

 

"ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਖੁਸਿ ਲਏ ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ॥੩॥ (417)

Souls that have collected so many sins under the influence of maya are judged in God's royal court (Dargah) :

 

1) Due to the accumulation of bad deeds, God himself decides that they are to be destroyed and gives the order in God's court (DARGAH)

2) He Himself gives them opportunities to lose whatever few virtues they have left by doing more sins

3) He Himself comes in the form of the Destroyer (invader) to cut them down

4) He Himself sends them back down into lower lifeforms - and who knows who many thousands of years they will spend in transmigration, until they collect enough good deeds again and He himself decides to give them another chance.

 

 

This line from Guru Nanak Dev Ji shows how fortunate we all are that we are in a position to collect as many virtues as possible and finish our soul's journey.  It also explains why Baba Ji has always said that the ones who slander and then go on to slander Saints had that written as their destiny from before they were even born.  Due to all the sins they have accumulated in their previous lives and in the past of this life, God's command for them was to lose all their virtues and ultimately to be destroyed.

 

That is all I wanted to share with Guru's blessing, please forgive us for mistakes, but it shows how everything comes from God and virtues are the key on this path.  Lacking them we are destroyed, collecting them we become Dhan Dhan (blessed blessed).

 

For information , here is the full verse and little bit of history behind the verse - it is one of four verses by guru Nanak Dev Ji written about the invasion of Punjab by the Mughal Babar (collectively known as Babarbani).

 

"During the end of Guru Nanak's last journey Mughal invader Babar attacked Aimnabad (Saidpur). His troops slaughtered thousands of innocent civilians. Women and children were made captives and all their property looted.

 

In spite of his destructive role Babar is seen by Guru Nanak to have been an unwitting instrument of the divine Will. Because the Lodhi's had violated God's laws, they had to pay the penalty. Babar descended from Kabul as God's chosen agent, demonstrating the absolute authority of God and the retribution which must follow defiance of His laws. Guru Nanak's commentary on the events which he actually witnessed thus becomes a part of the same universal message. God is absolute and no man may disobey. His commands with impunity. Obey Him and receive freedom. Guru Gobind Singh Ji wrote "ridh sidh Sabh Moh Ha" meaning that these occult powers are nothing more than attachments.

According to Bhai Gurdas Ji , a blessed soul of the time of the earlier Gurus, Guru Nanak Dev Ji had a deep conversation with the Sidhs - Yogi Masters of these Powers and they showed him things like flying, turning invisble, walking on water and so on just to impress the "boy" Nanak.  The called him "boy" because they thought he was very young (compared to the very old age - another power) and therefore impressionable.   They then asked Guru Nanak Dev Ji to show them his powers.  Guru Nanak Dev Ji replied that even if he could move heaven and earth, it would still be nothing more than the passing of the clouds and without SATNAAM (God) there is nothing.

 

"O respected Nath(Head Man)! Please listen to the truth that I utter. 

Without SATNAAM I have no other miracle.

I may wear the clothes of fire and build my house in the Himalayas .

I may eat the iron and make Earth move to my orders.

I may expand myself so much that I could push the Earth.

I may weigh the Earth and the sky against few grams of weight.

I may have so much power that I push aside anybody just by saying so.

But without SATNAAM, all these powers are momentary like the Shadow of the clouds."

Then the holy men tried to use their Supernatural powers (Sidhees) again but they found they had all been taken away by God. They fell at the Guru's feet in humility and humbly asked to be blessed with the greatest gift of Naam - SatNaam.   While there is EGO we chase after desires, including desires for occult powers.  when there is no ego, then all that is left is the Truth - SAT NAAM.   Ask yourself, what would you rather have - all the created powers, or the Creator?

Forgetting your purpose

The worst thing a doctor can do is to murder, rather than heal, because he hates his patients.

The worst thing a judge can do is lie under oath, to save his reputation.

And the worst thing God-person can do is to live under maya, for the sake of making money.

 

On this spiritual path, it can become very easy to forget why we entered upon it, and very easy to look like a relgious person on the outside,

but just being driven by maya on the inside.  Then that is our downfall.  May Satguru Baba ji saves me every moment of every day from falling into maya and forgetting Him.

Dealing with doubts about your Guru

QUESTION:

I was always very interested in Yogi Bhajan because of the amazing things I have heard about him from my KY teachers. He seemed to be a great source of spiritual knowledge. In my research in an effort to get as close to his teachings as possible, I came across something concerning however (and I bring this up in only the utmost respect to gather opinions on it).

I'm just concerned as I've been practicing KY for a while now and am *loving* it, but I don't know if I could continue to practice something from someone who may have been an abusive cult leader. Any evidence to the contrary or insights would be appreciative, since I'm somewhat heart-broken over this.

Thanks all, and once again I really don't mean any offense and I hope nobody misunderstands my intentions.

Please accept our prostration greeting at your holy feet.

you have asked a valid question. I have wasted many years in questions like these. It limits our spiritual progression because it is like driving a car with the handbrake on. With guru's kindness, what I have realised is that your spiritual path is all inside you. You are kind of saying, if Yogi Ji was not a right teacher, then I lose my faith. The real question to ask is always of your own mind. If we first accept that Guru Nanak Dev ji, who met murderers and the worst in society, if Guru himself has said , "I am not good and no one is bad, Nanak has been ferried across praying like this." Then we can try and carve this teaching into our heart as well.

So from now on if we say, no one is bad, only me. Then we have to point the finger inwards. What is the root cause of this question? And you will find it is doubts. In Guru's word wisdom (gurbani) this is called Dubidha. Guru Arjun Dev ji teaches us that whoever kills their doubts, their duality meaning seeing anything other than GOD in everything, is glorious.

One who kills this is freed of suffering.

How rare is such a person, who kills and casts off duality.

Killing it, he attains Raja Yoga, the Yoga of meditation and success. 1Pause

When we realise that doubts are our enemy and no one else, and especially not our spiritual teacher, then we can fight the correct enemy. True Faith, True Love and True devotion (Sacha vishwaas, sachee preet, shacha shardaa) in our Guru is our lifeline on the spiritual path. God is abstract, so He comes to us in a personal form in the heart of the saint. All we have to do is build our love, devotion and faith and pray to keep our head(ego) under the feet of God-Guru. Everyday we have to kill the doubts until there is 100% love only. Then that expands into super-love for Infinite God. But we have to beat our own mind first and trust and believe in the Guru God has sent us.

As said in another email, every single Guru, saint, devoteee has to go through the stage of slander. This includes you and also same thing happened to Yogi Ji too. The whole world including their family and friends, who are slaves of maya will try and pull down the onewho sets off on the path of Truth. Gurbani says that the saint becomes known throughout the world. Hence, their slander will also be worldwide and passionate. But, we who are on a spiritual path, are not to JUDGE even a single creation of God as being bad. Baba Ji said that while we choose to spend our life judging others we too will be judged, by Dharam Raj - Divine Judge at the end of our life. Only that one is not judged who completes their spiritual journey, who has gone past maya and her slaves who judge and slander. Only the one who has merged into the Truth is not judged. That one sees God in all. As Yogi Ji said, "If you cant see God in all, you cant see God at all."

Finally, Baba Ji also explained to us, even if your Guru is a fake, you should be such a devotee that your love saves the fake ones too. For example, devotee Dhanna Ji was a simple farmer who was desparate for God. He went to the holiest peson he knew - a Hindu Priest (Brahmin) who worshipped a rock. To fob Deotee Dhannaa ji off he gave him any old rock to worship and told him He would be blessed with god's vison. However, he fully knew that it wouldn't work, but he didn't care. Devotee Dhanna ji had so much faith in the words of his new Guru, that he took that rock and focused all his love and devotion on it, to the point he said to the One all prevading Ik Oankar, show yourself or I will starve to death. Then he was blessed with God's vision internally. This is as much of the story that is commonly told. But, Baba Ji also told us what happened next. Devotee Dhanna ji, who had completed his spiritual journey and was so full of love and now knew the Truth of his fake Guru. He prayed to God to also save His Guru too with no thoughts of punishing the fake Guru.

So this whole spiritual journey comes down to how much you conquor your own doubts through your true love, true faith and true devotion for your Guru regardless of what they are. It only matters what you are and how big your heart is.

  So we cannot avoid living with people and avoid relationships and attractions and marriage and children. Because its all written in our karma that these people will come into our life and we have to repay our dues.

  Even though you see all as one, still one day God will make you attracted to someone and get you married and have children if thats your karma.

  So that is not bad.
