Dear Elspeth,
Sat Naam, Sat Guru, Sat Sangat - I bow to you.

I find it very interesting and wonderful how this mantra can be combined with yoga and mudras as
taught by Yogi Bhajan Ji and described in previous posts.  And also all the benefits it brings to one who recites it.

Personally, I have had the following experience of it and as long as I put my heart into it, I didn't necessarily need to put the yoga
and mudras and timings or chantings with it (although that is a great way to focus the mind).

It is a verse by the fifth Guru, Guru Arjun Dev Ji.
Whenever I sing or recite any praises from the Guru's, I always feel it is the Guru within me who is
singing it.  In that way, I feel I am stepping in the dear Guru's shoes, and those sweet words are
carving my heart into a humble and kind place.  A place where God can come and reside.
That is the greatest benefit of singing and reciting the words of the Guru-Masters, they take us back to
the place they came from, and that is the higher consciousness - the God consciousness.

I remember visiting my Aunt in hospital once in India on a vist.  She could hardly speak, I just sat next to her
whilst my Dad (her brother) spoke to her.  I had the feeling to hold her hand and to just keep reciting this
verse "aap sahaee hoa, sachay da sachay doo-a".   It felt very kind and loving.  It felt like the Guru was blessing
her Himself.   It felt like the Guru was giving her the help and support she needed at this time when she was at her weakest
and lowest.

And that's what it means, "God Himself becomes the Aid, the True One's support is True."

Years later, when she was well and came to visit us, she said to me that she remembered me sitting next to her quietly,
praying for her and it had helped her.  I was surprised she was even aware I was there.  God was giving me some feedback through her, I guess,
to reinforce that it was a good thing He had me do.

I always find it helps to read the whole verse that a particular line comes from. My friend once said to me,
that when we read the Guru's words, try and feel why they turned the pen in that particular way,
what were they feeling, what were they expressing.  Baba Ji also said we have to not merely read or recite the
Guru's words, but to become them.  So that there is no difference in what the Guru's words say and what we do.

You can read for yourself the whole verse

Here and hereafter, He is our Savior.
God, the True Guru, is Merciful to the meek.
He Himself protects His slaves.
In each and every heart, the Beautiful Word of His Shabad resounds. ||1||
I am a sacrifice to the Guru's Feet.
Day and night, with each and every breath, I remember Him; He is totally pervading and permeating all places. ||Pause||
He Himself has become my help and support.  (aap sehaaee hoaa )
True is the support of the True Lord.  (sachae dhaa sachaa dtoaa)
Glorious and great is devotional worship to You.
Nanak has found God's Sanctuary. ||2||14||78||

move to India to get away from everything

QN:

Need advice plzz help

Sat Nam,

Right now i live in Canada and i want to move to India to get away from everything.  To be able to find a place where one can be allow a place of peace with no disturbance, maybe later on might return to fulfil ones doing, but for now at this present time just want to be allow a place where i can let go of this duality and find that which one truly longs for.  What I'm trying to ask is do i need a visa to move to India and where will be a place which you recommend to go for the beginning for arrival (a place to settle down at the beginning) ,until later on when one decides to relocate.  All help is much appreciated, i only speak English for now and I'm 27.  It feels as i have to be in a positive place and right now strangely i feel kinda out of place.  Material things don't attract me, it more makes me what to be away, guess cause so many people are caught up with it and they forget bout whats really important.  I am sure glad there is someone
like you in my life,  Again thank you for everything and especially for being you.  Light and love always and will opening up to soon

Sat Naam Robindra,

funnily enough I was very close to emigrating to Canada a few years ago.
I also justified it in many ways - mainly that it would help me spiritually.
Baba Ji said to me that God is here and God is there too.  What really makes us move is our karma.  If we have give and take to finish in that place then our karma makes it our destiny to go.  But dont think it is for spiritual reasons, because at the end of the day God is within you, closer to you than your hands and feet, closer to you than your breath, closer than even your thoughts.   What helped me then was to really understand what the root cause of my discomfort was.  Then praying to God and with Baba Ji's blessings, I was able to come to peace within and with those all around.

I've been to India many times (am born and bred in the UK),  it is beautiful and it is the most corrupt place too, you can meet saints and sinners on the same corner.   Dont be fooled by your imagination.  The mind always paints pretty pictures , like the carrot that makes the donkey walk forward.  The reality is different when you get there.

Look within, make peace within, pray for the Guru's blessings of Sat Naam, pray for God to bring the lght into your heart, to shine from your face, to calm the five thieves, to find a place at the feet of the saints.

I said to baba ji "It is so hard to find the saints", he replied, "they are everywhere, its only our ego that makes us blind."

Rise above being unsettled

Dont let anyone upset you.
The false only rattle the falseness in you.
Egotists only clash with the ego in you.
Haters only stir the hatred dormant in you.
Become like the air that absorbs it all and lets it go.
The same air in the breath that speaks hate,
the same air in the breath that speaks love,
the air doesnt care, is above it all, is unaffected,
is serving as God makes it serve.
Rise above being unsettled,
become like the air.

What meditations can be done to fight procastination?

QN:  What meditations can be done to fight procastination?

ANSWER:

Sat Naam
I bow to the Light Within You.

There is a beautiful line from the saint Kabir.  It has helped me to remember it whenever I feel like putting off tasks.

He wrote "What you are going to do tomorrow, do today, and what you are going to do today, do right now!"

[Full quote is in the Guru Granth Sahib 1371 :

kabeer kaal kara(n)thaa abehi kar ab karathaa sue thaal ||
paashhai kashhoo n hoeigaa jo sir par aavai kaal ||138||

Kabeer, that which you have to do tomorrow - do it today instead;
and that which you have to do now - do it immediately!
Later on, you will not be able to do anything,
when death hangs over your head. ||138||

Kabir Ji's lifestory in an online book -

ANother one of his verses which has helped me goes something like, "Whenever you get the chance to meet a saint, go an meet them, even if its for just an hour, or half an hour, or half of half an hour."
