Satnaam Ji Ka Khalsa Satnaam Ji Ki Fateh

To Sat Sangat Ji,

The Seva of Naam is beyond comprehension, acceptance is crucial in order to climb the Path of Truth.

We must accept that we truly are fools- heavily indulgent in the temporary bliss Maya has to offer. If we wasn't: we would all be sitting in Dargah without any disturbance or irritation.

Ardaas is very important, making it our own personal confession is beautiful and is welcomed by the Guru. We have provided a copy of the Ardaas (from the website) we repeat however many times of the day it is needed, now it is fixated in our being, we have received infinite blessings because of it.

Print it, distribute it, recite it, it is there only for your benefit.

Why does God let natural disasters happen?

Ik Oankaar Sat Naam Sat GurParsaad||

following on from the events in Haiti, many people ask "Why does God let this happen?" and her is an article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8467755.stm) by a philospher asking the same question about God.  And when he asked the question of Christian leaders, they chose not to answer or to say "let us pray."

But here is a conversation we had with Dassan Dass ji about this following Tsunami a few years ago.

Re: [Truth] Shabad

SatNaam Ji Ka Khalsa SatNaam Ji Kee Fateh!

Veer ji, the confusion arises only because you think NAAM= Name and hence as you have only one name, so should God.
But if you think of NAAM as the Ocean of Divinity, the presence of Truth, the living Cosmic Energy, the Divine Life Force, then you can understand better.  This Divine Force is called the Naam, and it is real, true, it exists, it is Eternal Truth - SAT.  You can become like a drop that is absorbed in it.  You can merge with it when your ego disappears.  So SAT NAAM is actually a description of this state of being.  Infact Baba ji and Dassan Dass ji say that when you become one with it, then there is no more physical Name "Sat Naam"  there is only SILENCE.  Baba ji said that SILENCE is the highest.  That
"Ik Onkar - SILENCE
Sat Naam - the game (creation) begins."

So silence is the highest state of being.

But to get to that highest state there is a journey through your mind under the influence of maya.

Baba ji himself knew nothing about Naam.  But he had incredible bhagti from last lives and when that awoke within him, he heard God's voice which he said was the sweetest of all voices and it said to him "Naam Simran Karo" - Do Naam Simran.

He had no idea what Naam Simran was.  But that one voice was like sun shining in a dark night and he completely wanted to sacrifice himself for it, like a moth goes to light.  He despised all of his bad actions, he wanted to clean up everything inside himself for God had blessed him directly - GurParsaad.

So Baba ji thought - "O I should go to gurdwara to serve God"  So he went and as he served, he just clicked his tongue, thinking that was the Naam.  After years of serving and listening to the katha and kirtan, Baba ji eventually go intitated and was blessed with the shabad "Waheguru" and told it was the Naam.  so he believed it and meditated upon that.  As he went into deeper and deeper samadhis and srrendered to the love of theLord, he reached a state where God spoke to him and said "You can know go and start your own organisation and start giving the Panj Shabad Naam to your disciples.  And the Panj Shabad Naam (five word name) was given to Baba ji by god and included baba ji's own name as well.  But Baba ji had already seen his past lives during his years of bhagti  and said to God full of love, "Why do I want to start another organistaion, I have seen I have started many before, this time I only want to know you completely."  So Baba ji carried on his Samadhi and God came again and said to Baba ji "Do Simran on "Sat Naam"  that is my primal Naam, the one I chose for myself.  all other Names are created out of love by my Bhagats, but Sat is my primal original Naam."

So Baba ji meditated on "Sat Naam" .  And His bhagti went so high that Baba ji said "the pebble(Baba ji) pierced the diamond(God)".   Along the way even "Sat Naam" turned into "Sat Sat Sat".  Baba ji said that actually "SAT" is pure and Primal Naam.  Saying "Naam" after it, it just describing it.  Like the divine word "SAT" is the flame and the word "NAAM" is the shadow.

Then after that even "Sat Sat Sat" turned into complete silence.

That is where Dassan Dass Ji resides as well.

We cannot even imagine it.

So Veer ji, this whole journey starts with GurParsaad - which ignites us.  And we can get GurParsaad from someone who is already ignited and fully realised i.e. a Sant, a Guru, or in Baba ji's exceptional case, direct from God.  Then they give us the praise name of their path  , and there are many praise Names eg Ram, Waheguru, Har Har and so on.  It doesnt really matter what they give us to start with.  What matters is the GurParsaad they give us and the love and devotion we bring to it.

Then just as a stream flows down and gather speed and strength, and grows wider and stronger, then the Shabad that God wants you to meditate upon will keep changing.  The ultimate is Sat Naam, followed by SAt SAT Sat and then silence, when the river merges into the ocean.

Satnaam Jee

Veer ji thanks for your reply. you did your best to solvemy problem.
basically i want to know exactly what is a right path. you go to radha swami or nirankari etc. their spiritual head (guru ji) give naam to the person and that naam is not disclosed by the person. the question is not about disclosing of the naam. as baani says:
naam amolak ratan hai pure satguru pass, satguru sev lagiya kad ratan deve pragas.

sach sabad sach pati hove, bin naame mukat na paave koi,
ben satguru ko naam na paave, prab aise banat banai he

sant jinha mile bhaio, sacha naam samaal

puraa satguru je mile, paeye sabad nidhaan

sant duvaare jaye naam to ghar tab paave

jin to mastak likhia tin payaa har naam

anhad baani punji, santan hath rakhi kunji.

above mentioned shlok/bani are from sggs ji. what i have learned from these shlok/bani (whether i learned wrong or right i dont know) that naam can be obtained from sadh (puran sant, sant, puran satguru) and that also cannot be obtained if you dont have destiny to receive it.. (jin to mastak likhia tin payaa har naam). the question of kind and generousity should not be there.

my question is not about querrling about satnaam or naam. it is a healthy talk and it should be shared. if my name is gurprakash and some one tell you that my name is not gurprakash and my name is ramsevak. then either me is telling a lie or that person is telling a lie.

sikhi is emerged since only 500 years back. the count (500) is very less in couting. all the things written in SGGS ji is not true after gurnanak dev ji plant a tree of spirituality. it is true since from the beggining of the world. i think it is not like that 10 guru came and they told us the different things. all the things exists before the come of all 10 guru. the naam exists before the beginning of world and will exists after it. and to take naam it should be in the same manner. (sach sabad sach pati hove, bin naame mukat na paave koi, ben satguru ko naam na paave, prab aise banat banai he). guru arjun dev ji is saying that naam only can be obtained from satguru and this thing is made by prab (khuda/akal purakh).

hazrat sultan bahu sahib likhde ne:
kalme (naam) di gal tad paisi (get acquinted) bahu jad murshid (sadh) kalma dasiya hu,
sari umar vich kufar (false) di vich jaali (wasted), bin mushid (sadh) de dasiya hu

sultan bahu was a famous punjabi sufi poet. i dont know whether you believe in sufism or not. everyone is said this thing.

you have written that your mother and majority of people is having this problem.  this is not a problem mere veer. you think you are right and you made all other wrong.

Waiting for reply but you dont need to answer me if you think i am wrong. do the thing you think that is right.

Satnaam Jee

VEER JI, I am replying to your post, I will try and answer your question,

First of all, as you mentioned about the doubts you having, "DOUBT" itself is a major obstacle on this path of Spirituality,

A majority of people stay lost because of these "DOUBTS", my mother also his this problem, may God bless her to overcome her doubts,

Best thing to overcome these doubts is to seek Guidance and get Wisdom From a Puran Sant-Satguru, a God-realised soul, only such a soul can give you right wisdom and take away your doubts. Remember Guru is not physical body, Guru is the light of God that is present everywhere, so in true divine sense, all saints will say the same thing.

What you gotta do is have strong faith and trust in him, Dont go from one place to another, it will only further make your doubts worster, as I personally went into this situation at one point in my life.

You see There are number of True God-Realised Souls at this earth and they may give you or present you with Naam in a different manner, for example Sant Jee and Baba ji asks us to focus on"SATNAAM" because God's primal name is TRUTH and you may notice that usually most of the religion have used this word for the name of God, lets focus on Guru Granth Sahib Ji for a reason, it starts with EKONKAAR SATNAAM. Whatever naam it maybe, It will based to do with something with SAT - Truth. Some saints may test your devotion and eligibility by putting you through some tests before giving you Naam. In Dassan Das Ji's and Baba Ji's case, they are very kind so they give Naam to everyone that approaches them, however taking Naam means commitment, only take it if you are serious, otherwise dont bother, it will make things worster (I experienced this). Because God sends pain when we dont learn, but even that is for our own Good.

However, important thing is when choosing your Guru is to make sure when you go to a Guru, see If you find peace in the presence of him, if you are inspired by his speeches, if he is able to clear your doubts, if he is free, from greed, anger, and lust, if he is selfless, loving, and I-less, ask your heart and listen to the heart, you will never go wrong. It is the mind that leads to confusion, so

You have come to this Satnaam Groups so it maybe in your destiny for DASSAN DAS JI to be your GURU, however just listen to your heart and go for the saint you want to go for  but make sure whoever you get NAAM off, you then commit yourself fully to him with total commitment, belief and dedication and devotion and love.

Subject: [Truth] Shabad

your satnaam group is very knowledgable about spirituality. Baba ji answers are very close to the heart. baba ji stressed on us to go to the sadh and give him (sadh) tan man dhan. but i have question and the question is whenever you go to any sadh, he will give his own Naam to the sevak and babaji also stress on "Satnaam". i have read many articles on Naam. i have question when we go to any sadh and receive his Naam then what should we do. either we stick ko his Naam or we stick to Satnaam or we can stick to both.

please do reply my question (duvida).

Re: [Truth] Death of this Brave Sikh - Please do kirpa over him God

SatNaam Veer ji, we know nothing.
Our prayers are with the family.  May Satguru ji bless them and his soul.

However, you wrote: "I strongly feel this guy did the right action however what happened to him wasn't right. "

I= ego.
what happened to him wasn't right = not accepting the hukam.

So your one statement is showing your ego is not accepting the hukam.

As Baba ji said to us, everything happens because KARMA OVERRULES EVERYTHING.  We dont know the full karma of the man's soul with his murderers.  We have only seen a glimpse of their story in this life, and we decide "what happened to him wasn't right."

Baba Ji said if it has happened i.e. EVERYTHING IN THE PAST, then accept it as HUKAM.

But going forwrd, so good deeds and thoughts as you reap what you sow.

Personally, in that situation, dying to save a ladies handbag was a pointless death.  If they had run off with her child , then it was worth chasing them.  But for a handbag?   But he proabably chased them on the principle that they had no right to attack a defenceless woman.  He was defending her rights.   Personally, we think that is what the police are here for, that is why we have law and order.  There are a lot of crazy people out there, we have a system to deal with them.  Trying to be a hero, a one man, hero didnt work.  I used to live in this illusion that "I was a Khalsa - a saint soldier"  , I wore blue bana and two kirpans and two turbans - even whilst walking around the streets.  I tried learning gatka and thought of myself as a saint saoldier.  However, with gurParsaad we realised that we were just an office worker, unfit and using the saint-soldier outfit as an escapism from facing reality, and living in the past.    The Saint-soldiers of the past were so because there was no law and order.  Guru Gobind Singh ji made the saint-soldiers to be the police force, to be the army, to stand up to the tyrants.  But we have police force, we have an army and we have law and order.   So we can get on with facing reality that we are family people, office workers whose duty  its isto finish our kamra within our family, and do our bhagti.  And if and when the time comes that we have to stand up to tyrants of thieve or criminals then let us do it in the nest way.  Eg the Singh who died could have given emotional support to the women after the attack and called the police and given a good description of the attackers.  That would have been his good deed - we guess he carried a kirpan himself, but did not know how to use it or how to fight.  This is the illusion that I , and proaably most initiated Sikhs live in - that they are soldiers because of their kirpan.  REality is, they are unfit and have no idea how to defend themselves never mind others.

So try and live in the reality of where god has placed us, not in illusion of past glories of the real saint soldiers.

And use the right weapons for every situation.   The weapon in this situation was to call the police, not to chase them and get stabbed.

We feel you would have chased the guy as well in that situation, but would you do that because your ANGER thief arose and wanted to TEACH THEM A LESSON?

Just our opinion.

Actually, My mum told me about this incident when she got home today. I strongly feel this guy did the right action however what happened to him wasn't right. He surely didn't die in vein trying to help others. Please do Kirpa over this soul God and SatGuru Ji and give him the GurParsaad.

Please Sat Sangat, lets all pray for him, May God bless him and his family to come out of the mental trauma they will be going through at the moment.

Sikh Hero Stabbed To Death In Street

6:25pm UK, Saturday January 09, 2010
Mark Langford, Sky News Online

A man was stabbed to death while trying to stop two muggers who had stolen a woman's bag.
Sukhwinder Singh pursued two men who robbed a 28-year-old woman near Barking station in east London.
When he caught up with the pair a fight broke out and the 31-year-old was knifed.
Mr Singh chased the robbers along Victoria Road into Uphall Road before he was attacked just before 7pm on Friday.
He was taken to the Royal London hospital but later died. A post-mortem is due to take place.

Detective Inspector John Sandlin, of the Metropolitan Police, said: "This is a tragic death of a man who was killed for attempting to stop others committing crime, and our thoughts are with Sukhwinder's family.
"However, I would also to reassure the wider community that tragic events such as these are very rare.
"I am appealing for anyone that knows who committed this crime, or who has any information about those who committed this crime, to do the right thing and come forward and contact police.
"My officers are also keen to hear from anybody who witnessed the initial robbery, the actual altercation that led to the stabbing and additionally anyone who may have seen any persons matching the suspect's description fleeing the Uphall Road area.

"It is also possible that the suspects may have abandoned the bag stolen and I appeal to anyone who may find a brown leather shoulder bag, to contact police.
"It may be that it has significant clues that could help solve this awful crime."
The two robbers were both black men in their 20s or 30s and 5ft 7in to 6ft.
The incident room can be contacted on 0208 345 3715 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

city of ghosts - dream

SatNaam Dassan Dass Ji,

Dandauth bandhna ji

We would like to ask your advice on this dream we had the other night after we read a chapter of sukhmani about the praise of a Sadh. It was along dream, but basically we suddenly had the ability to see ghosts of a punjabi family, they were friendly and in a friendly house. We were more fascinated that we could see ghosts than anything else thinking "so this is how Namjeevan sees ghosts- they do seem so real", then we went walking through a city of ghosts. The people were working and travelling, but had no light on their face, twisted faces. We were like a tourist. Then we saw a huge giant serpant rising up and about to swallow us, we were blessed enough to recite SatNaam SatNaam and it shrunk and shrivelled back into the ground.

But later a huge crowd of ugly faces started following us. We got concerned and faced them and started shouting "SatNaam SatNaam", but they sensed fear inside us and taunted us back by mockingly saying "sat naam sat naam". We realised we needed do do satnaam from our hirdha, so we went quite and did so. Then we panicked and started calling out "Baba Ji Baba ji save me, save me". Then we had the realisation it wasa dream and we strted saying to ourself "WAKE UP WAKE UP" and we woke up. but it seemed very real.

Was the city of ghosts just our own lower/animal consciousness. All the twisted faces and so on, were just all our 5 thieves, negativity, slandering, jealousy, hatred, and every other negative destructive quality we have? Is this understanding correct to you?

Dearest Sweetest SatNaam Satguru Ji ,

thankyou so much for your kind reply. We felt so much amrit from Dassan Dass ji's replies. We kept re-reading and feeling more and more amrit. We take that to mean that your words are divine are coming directly from Sat Naam and SatNaam was showing us really the Kood around us and that we should not fear it but pray for its transformation.

We will take more and more to naam and bandgi with your blessings as you have said ji.

We can never thankyou for enough, our mum said last week that a child can never repay what their mother has done for them (i.e given birth) - implying we should will always owe her. We dont know about that as Baba ji said that even that karma ("ma da dhoodh - mothers milk" was repaid in his bandagi. But we can never repay what you have done for us, what the Sant Hirdhas have done for us.

Power Of Prayer

IK ONKAR SATNAAM SATGURPARSAAD

SHARING A CHAT WITH DASSAN DASS JI:

Harjit: We always look to you for blessings, but also we pray for your family and all those meet you to be forever blessed as well.

dassandass3: Thanks, keep praying it helps, prayers break all karmic layers and penetrate through and are rewarding, extremely rewarding for both the person praying and for the person being prayed for. Especially from those who are blessed with the gurparsaad, their prayers are heard in the Dargah, no matter what.

Harjit: yes, we didnt understand that before, but prayer is the true power. We have seen with our own eyes how prayer has helped our family last year , from how angry they were with our sister, to welcoming her with open arms, and how our daughter Tavleen skin and emotions have been healed and how our wife has calmed down too.

dassandass3: yes we will continue to pray for your wife and parents. As your bandgi continues to go higher with your seva they will continue to improve.

dassandass3: Ask Namjeevan jee to pray for the ones who need as you said earlier. Families that are adamant don't realize what they are missing.

Harjit: Najeevan ji is so great, so listens to our problems every week and is so kind to all of us. We will ask her to pray for our adamant family members.

dassandass3: ask her to pray for our family as well, our wife, son and daughter and son-in-law. Ask the entire sangat to do so as well.

First reviews of the Sukhmani Explanation Book

Ik Onkar Sat Naam Sat GurParsaad||

Dandauth Bandhna Ji,

we would like to share a snippet of conversation we had with Dassan Dass ji two days ago.  It shows how readers of the Sukhmani Explanation book will be blesssed and are already being blessed.

======================

dassandass3: yes, as the time goes by more and more people will see it [sukhman Explanation book] and would be blessed to read it
dassandass3: It looks like Baba Ji is very happy with the book being published.
Harjit: Namjeevan ji said she read the first astpadi then went right into sunn samadhi, she also said Baba ji read some and went into deeper samadhi right away as well.
Then she said she read just one page of astpadi 2 next day, adn the whole room filled with light and sants who came to bless her.  We are really not worthy to do this seva of swans, but its only with your grace we are still here doing seva.

dassandass3: that is the gurparsaad, anybody who reads it will be blessed with the gurparsaad.  Naam will go into their Surat and Hirda and Rom Rom.   Will be filled with amrit.  Chotey Mata Jee also started vibrating with naam just be seeing the book.

Harjit: we gave a copy to our cousin and his wife last week, they have had naam from their Sant in India, they have had a baby boy a few days ago and named him Simmer (a in Simrao simmer simmer sukh paavo ..from sukhmani). Please send blessings to them at this time, his wife is very weak and came into our dream the other day.   This seva is incredible, this gift of SatNaam coming through you ji is incredible, we are blessed, the sangat is blessed, the whole world is blessed with it.

dassandass3: God bless her, give her to read the book as well, she will feel wonderful. [07 Jan update - she has fully recovered now and is pain free]. Your seva is dhan dhan, this seva will bring you and your kul jivan mukti.  We are very very and always very pleased at what you have done so far
Harjit: thankyou so much, we have also given a copy to our relative as you requested us to do so, she has resolved to stop talking bad about others this year at least.  she said she will read the book as well.

Harjit: we have registered a new domain called www.sukhmani.info , currently it just points to the book purchase page.
dassandass3: great, God bless you
Harjit: With your kirpa we would like to make this the central page for all the sukhmani books that are coming - the current one, punjabi one, maybe hindi one , a purely english one for westerners too. And to upload sukhmani paat, and shabads that we have managed to collect over time.

dassandass3: Are there any sukhmani societies in uk
Harjit: We are not aware of any sukhmani societies , but am sure there are some and will find out with your blessings.
dassandass3: Baba Ji was telling that we should be sending copies to such institutions .

getting frustrated doing housework?

SatNaam Ji
Dandauth Bandhna Ji

a  couple of weeks ago in the sangat, Namjeevan mentioned that whilst doing housework or trying to control the kids we find ourselves getting really frustrated.   We could all relate to it.  Thoughts like "Why do i have to do this?"  or "They treat me like a servant?"  or "why aren't others helping, I seem to be doing everything?"  and so on.   Namjeevan mentioned that we have to conquor those frustrations as well.

Dassan Dass ji has already given us the solution a) never complain about anything as that is not accepting the Hukam of our situation.  With guru Ji's kirpa we have realised recently that Hukam means accepting what God wants us to do, whereas complaining means we dont WANT to do it.  Hukam = what God wants. Desire = what we want.  By following Hukam our ego dies,  by following desires our ego increases.   Guru Nanak Ji, Baba Ji, Dassan Dass Ji and all the Divine souls have told us to get rid of HAUMAI(ego) + TRISHNA (desires).

Anyway, coming back to doing household tasks, what we resolved to do was to pray before commencing each task.  To physically put our palms together in prayer postiion, to recite "Ik OANKAR SATNAAM SATGURPARSAAD" as given to us by Dassan Dass ji, and then to recite a verse from gurbani "Teree Seva Teree Seva teree seva, mukat bhugat jugat teree seva" - meaning "in your seva, your seva, your seva is liberation, enjoyment and divine union."   Then we commenced with washing dishes, or cooking, or cleaning or serving the kids.  Before each single task we did it for last couple of weeks.  Even before going toilet, even before eating.   It has really worked and kept our mind cool.     Dassan dass ji has asked us all to keep doing our ardas every 5 minutes during thwe day, so this is a simple and easy way of doing so we found.  [although last night we forgot to do it and snapped at the kids, compalined about the food and asked for forgiveness from guru ji right away.]

Also a couple of weeks ago in sangat in our simran we were asking Guru ji to show us how we can surrender, to keep on guiding us from within.  And we were gettiing the thoughts to go back to basics, to wipe the shoes of the family in the morning before doing simran, to serve the family as sangat, to keep washing their feet in our meditation, to become a servant.  Then Namjeevan ji also shared what she expereinced.  she said that normally she is given visions, but this time she was given Braham Gian.   She was shown how Sita loved and served her husband Ram.  But even though he was her husband, she actually served god within him, that was her level of surrender and love.  The same with Ranj and Heera.  So to surrender trying to control our family members (which is due to selfish attachment - moh) and to replace with serving God within them, to ve them overflowing unconditional love, to be at their service and expect nothing in return (that is PREM PREM PREM - jin prem keeo tin hee prabh paaio - those who love realise God - guru gobind singh ji).

give up ego

would just like to share the obvious with  the sangat that listening to and singing of Gurbani Kirtan really focuses the mind and fills the heart with love.   Last few weeks we have been spedngin all day listening to kirtan whilst converting our old audio cassettes to MP3s.  guru Ji has been very kind and has filled us with lots of love for gurbani again - its is all his blessing as to whose heart will get pierced with the arrows of the Gur Shabad - Guru's word.  Then the other night we where hearing gurbani verses all through our dreams.   Last night we had a dream we were with a young Sikh man (like our friend) at the gurdwara, we were sitting cross legged at his feet and he said what are you doing and we replied with love and laughter, "just give up haumai (ego) and sit at everyone's feet"  then we massaged his feet.   He tried to stop us politely.  but it was lovely lesson for us from Guru Ji,  to just give up ego and sit at everyones feet i.e. keep our mind on washing everyones feet, or touch them for real, or do danduth for real, or even wash them for real, or wipe their shoes - whatever it takes to stay at their feet.

also what we have found really helpful in the last few days, is that whenever someone annoys us , rather than reacting badly, just say to yourself "STOP!  How do I feel right now?"  Then notice what feelings and thoughts are running thru your mind,  eg "I feel angry, frustrated, annoyed.  They are stubborn and not listening etc".  But then to change those thoughts to ones of compassion, to think of positive things about the other person, "they are a good person, a kind person, they look after their kids, they work hard, they are generous and so on".

It has really worked, instead of focusing on their ONE negative deed, to refocus on the NINE good deeds and to wash their feet with love and laughter.
