Guru's word should prick us into action

Whenever gurbani or dassan dass ji's divine words prick us, then we have to take notice as that is what we need to work on.   When there is no difference between what we are thinking, saying and doing and what gurus words are then we become gurmukh  says guru Amar das ji.    Then God can manifest inside us.

Everyone thinks guru should be nice sweet old man,  like grandpa or father Xmas.    Yes at times they are like that, they uplift the lowly, the hot and the injured.    But when the devotee goes too far the other way,  then guru also takes out the iron rod and knocks the ego elephants head to bring it on the straight and narrow.

As a parent we do the same to kids,  we tell them nicely fire is bad stay away.  But if they go back to the fire, then shouting and maybe hard push comes. Kid won't like it, but parent saw the bigger picture.     Parent doesn't hate the kid.

So guru is same, ego won't like being told off. But then we have to trust they see the bigger picture of the dangers ahead as they have already walked this path.

Everyone who has fallen away from their guru fell because some test came up where they didn't trust their guru, didnt let go of their own logic.

Whenever we go thru a test we are like the kid who has limited experience. So things don't make sense to us. So all we have is faith in our gurus words.    If we keep the faith  we pas the tests and later on when we look back we understand guru only did best for us.
