QUESTION - we give 20% or even more in TAX which contributes towards NHS and other services which help the community - does this not count as giving 10% or even more?

Any kind of giving is good if it comes from your heart. Most people resent the fact they have to pay tax. Resentment closes the heart. Giving freely opens the heart. God gave us everything - body, mind, wealth, family and ultimately Naam - what did "I" actually create? There is nothing stopping people from continuing living their normal life of earning, paying tax, bringing up their family, spending money on themselves etc. But, if you want to liberate your your soul, you have to "die before you die" - means ego has to die and everything you are going to leave behind here anyway on physical death, you give up beforehand y trusting your Guru. That your guru is taking care of you now, not your ego and logic about money. Guru who gives us Naam - the priceless diamond has eaarned it by surrendering 100% at God's feet. He only teaches us the same. Giving everything to your Guru is the only way back to God liberate your soul. Only ego is fighting with what Gurbani is saying. Defeating ego by doing what gurbani says is how you EARN the guru's words. Otherwise there is nothing that can cut your entanglements. Baba ji said 10% of your GROSS is daswand. Baba ji said hardly anyone has actually given their full Daswand, but he continues to bless everyone regardless. Because it is not that the Guru needs the money, he only spreads truth with it, it is to free the disciple from the entanglements of money and wealth and property that is holding their soul from being free. Everything you give to your guru comes back in multitude. Bhai Gurdas ji writes that even giving one penny to your guru gets multiplied and comes back to you. Even taking one step towards the guru, the Guru takes millions of steps to welcome you. Even reciting the Naam - Satnaam - once, the Guru causes you to recite it again adn again countless times within. Unto such a Guru, Bhai Gurdas ji says, I am a sacrifice again and again and again. This is the kind of devotion that is required from a disciple for their Guru. Otherwise without that extreme love, a person can never transcend their mind. We have personally found that at times of financial difficulty when we thought we should stop giving daswand as we need to save, we managed to overcome our ego (that pinching inside) and give. And our financial difficulties have gone - our job was extended, our loss making flats found a buyer. Without trust in our Guru and in His Gurbani, then we can never overcome our logic mind and ego.
God bless all.
