if you are trying to get somewhere on a bike, but have not learned how to ride then no matter how hard you pedal you will keep wobbling side to side , often falling. So it is better one learns to ride the bike and then head off to your destination. Which in practical terms means our mind is unstable, wobbling between ups and downs. We have not learned inner balance, yet we are making so many dreams which we are chasing without success. So isn't it better we get up early everyday, do our meditation , balance our mind, do good deeds all day long, stay in balance, and then whatever tasks we put our energy into will not make us unstable? What most people seem to be doing is just having a dream, chasing like mad, working all day, studying all night, burning themselves out for that qualification or that next big job, or for their family. When you surrender to your outer Guru, then you learn how to be balanced inside yourself, and you go through life as easily as riding a bike in any direction that your inner Guru calls you in. Guru Arjun Dev Ji wrote "O beloved one of God, sit steadily inside your house (heart) for the SatGuru takes care of all your tasks." (Thir ghar basoh har jan pyare, satgur tumaray kaaj savaray.)
God Bless all
