what does dandauth mean?

QN:Everone mentons the word "dandout", wat does it mean?

REPLY:
Dandauth means lying flat at the feet of God in others.

In Gurbani Guru ji's say when you meet a holy person greet them by pressing your palms together,
greet them by doing dandauth - that is a great virtuous deed :

kar sadhu anjuli pun vada ha.
kar dandauth pun vada ha....Guru Ram Das ji

When we meet we do dandauth
at each others feet physically.

In fact, when you get up to do simran, do imagine your Guru standing infront of you,
imagine the Sangat infront of you, inamgine God and the whole creation infront of you
and do dandauth.  Just lie on your tummy, press forehead on the floor like on the Gurus feet.
stretch your arms out infront of your head.  Become the lowest , become empty of ego,
and then God can fill you up with His Name of Truth - SatNaam.

Dandauth Bandhna means Dandauth Greeting.  so we greet each other like this on email as sign of humility.
Guru Arjun Dev ji writes, "Prabh ji tu mera praan adharaa, dandauth bandhna anek bar jao baraay"
meaning, "Dear God, you are the support of my life,
I offer you countless dandauth bandhna
I am a sacrifice to You."

So even when you go to the Gurdwara do Dandauth Bandhna infront of Guru Granth Sahib Ji - for that is
the Knowledge of Truth - Puran Sat.  And in your mind bow to god in every heart in the sangat.

Later on, do dandauth bandhna to your family as well.

Go outside in the garden or to a park and do dandauth bandhna on the grass and bow to the whole Creation,
to the lifeforce within the trees, the flowers, the insects, the birds - all living beings.

Become so humble , that even when someone is attacking you, slandering you, arguing with you,
you have enough self control not to react out of anger.  But instead you do your simran "Sat Naam Sat Naam"
and just do dandauth Bandhna at their feet.  By doing so your break the illusion that they are your enemy and recognise the God-part within them.

But bowing to God in others is not the same as being a coward.  We do not bow to criminals or oppressors or egotists who are trying to control us through fear.

Hope this explains it, there are more articles on the website satnaam.info.

Dust of your feet
Harjit
