Sat Naam Ji,
Dandauth Bandhna ji
none of us can get away from cultural and religious traditions that are around us, we are surrounded by birth, marriage and death rituals too.
Dassan Dass ji told us that we can use thes occasions to practise Truth. Actually once we have naam then we only focus on donig truthful deeds.
So wherever we go in life just keep doing Naam Simran , keep washing people's feet in your heart (keeps us humble) and keep doing good deeds eg serve them.
But stay away from doing bad deeds and worshipping anything less than SatNaam.
We asked Baba Ji once if we go to a Mandir shoudl we bow to the stone gods out of respect. Baba Ji explained that the sone idol represented an ideology - meaning it represented a belief system. Bowing to it we are aying we believe in that belief system. Baba ji said while they bow to the idol, you bow to them - to the livnig light of God in their heart.
Also we are not on this path to break up our families and start arguments, so it takes time for others to accept our beliefs, cant force them on others.
Everything beliongs to God, so go and celebrate but keep doing satnam satnaam, and keep doing good deeds for the living light of god in all those people in those places.
Pritam Anand Ji also told us when he went to India he was taken to a muslim saints death place, where people bow and take offerings and so on, but he did not bow. His friend asked him why he did not bow, he replied "it is your destiny to keep bowing at this place, but not min, I bow to Truth only."
Sometimes you have to be strong in your beliefs as well so other people learn the truth too.
Dust of your feet
Harjit
