aim of life is to become Gurmukh - this means to become the Guru's Words.  To take what is in Gurbani and what is said by the Sant and become the living , walking , talking , breathing words of the Guru.  so there is no difference between your actions and whatever you read in gurbani.  When we become like that then become full of good qualities - Gun.  And only then can God - the Gunni Nidhana - the tresure house of Gun, come and reside within us.  First we have to clean up our mind and heart, then pure can come to pure.    The Guru's words are the words of God, they have come from the Highest Consciousness - Truth Consciousnees - SAT.
When we live by them we are doing Truth, when we meditate upon them and on SAT Naam, we are focusing on Truth.

All is explained in Sukhmani katha, so please start reading, but do keep asking questions, as we have to deal with all our questions and doubts before we can move onto firm faith, love and devotion.  So even this is the beginning of your bhagti.  So that is already a blessing for you.
dust of your feet
