Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Words

ik onkar satnaam satgurprasad.

Here is a another way to read gurbani, by author.   Its great to just read what Guru Nanak Dev ji wrote all in one doc.  We are so fortunate that we can have this direct link with Guru Nanak Dev ji after all these years.  Because there are so many stories and myths and interpretations of Guru Nanak Dev ji's life that take our mind in kinds of other directions.  Just going back to the simple Truth of Guru Nanak Dev ji's Bani is where the whole of Sikhism started.  It is pure and refreshing and uplifting too.  Guru Nanak Dev ji very much reminds us that life is temporary, that all is false around us, so focus on Truth within us, get blessed by the Satguru with the Gurprasad of Naam and never to give up hope because we will make it to God.  Guru Nanak Dev ji says He himself is a sacrifice to the one who go for Naam.

prevent cancer - pray for a healthly lifestyle

satnaam ji,

dandauth bandhana ji (prostration greetings).

Alot of people think getting cancer is just bad luck and its out of their hands as to wether they get this disease or not.
Then they carry on with their life as normal.  Well, most cancer and other diseases prevalent in western society is
due to our lifestyle.  Bad diet, no excercise, stress, drinking alcohol and smoking are the major causes.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji said that "aapay beej aapah hee khao ... What we sow is what we reap" and that applies not just to spirituality, but also
to the food, drink, drugs and stressful hurtful words we put in our mouth with the result of disease in our body.

"Nanak fikay boliaa tan mun fikaa hoi" Guru Nanak Dev Ji says "speaking bitter words results in the body and mind becoming bitter too."

There are always going to be diseases that we cant avoid due to our genetic makeup or our karma playing out, but we certainly can avoid at least 40% (some say 90%)
by clean living according to this BBC Health article.

Even knowing that a healthly lifestyle is good for us, people still dont change their habits.  I know I was reading these kinds of articles for 3 years without being able to change.
So without God's Grace we can't change, we can't avoid the disease that our lifestyle is guiding us too.  Instead of giving up, please pray to SatGuru ji every day and sincerely to grant His favourable glance upon us so that we can change our bad habits.   The change in lifestyle happens by God's grace which allows the mind to change its thinking and the body just follows the new regime.

Another thing that really has helped me is to realise trying to be healthy out of fear of avoiding cancer doesn't really motivate for very long.  Trying to lose weight or to build mucles doesn't motivate for very long either as it is all ego based.   It can motivate us for a couple of months at most when we are really dedicated, pay money to the gym, go every day and so on, we see the results too, but then something happens and we stop going, get complacent and end up back in the old lifestyle.  I have been through that cycle many times.  But this time with God's Grace, I was able to have a different perspective.  This time I accepted this body is not mine, it is God's gift to my soul.  It is for me to look after.  This body and soul is called God's Temple - the real Har Mandir, by the Guru's.  We do so much service maintaing and running the Gurdwaras or temples, mosques or churches, but no time maintaining the body temple in which God - the soul - actually resides and will become manifest.  So with God's Grace this time I prayed that all the good eating and excercise and good thinking is in the service of God's body temple.  That God would accept it as service to Him, just as we hope god accepts our selfless service at the religious places. And secondly, I didn't set any future targets.  The only aim was to change bad DAILY habits into good DAILY habits.  Change from high fat diet to low fat diet, change from crisps and sweets to nuts and seeds. Change from no excercise to 30 minutes a day of anything - yoga, walking, running, cycling.  Change habits of late night TV watching to early to bed, early to rise.  Change negative thinking to positive praise of God in nature.  Change from complaining about the negative cards karma dealt me to thankfulness to God for this fleeting chance to be in this human body and do naam simran.  Change from associating with people that caused me stress which then caused me to seek relief from my bad habits, to associating with people that allowed me to be at peace with myself.

All this has happened by the power of personal prayer - ardas to Satguru Baba Ji for his kind favourable glance so a sinner like me can be ferried across the terrible ocean of the mind.   From prayer to grace to change of thinking to change in actions to a change in lifestyle to longer healthier life.

God bless you if you are at the stage of needing to change.
God is kind, God is merciful, God forgives us, our body forgives us too, as soon as we change our habits our health improves.

Meaning of Guru/Saints in Dreams

SAT NAAM

QN:
I once heard or read somewhere (may have been here) that if you dream of Yogi Bhajan while asleep, he is actually there to speak to you; to give you a message of some sort.

Has anyone heard of this?

If it is true, is the message supposed to be very clear?

Sat Nam!

Harpiara Kaur

QN:
Aloha.....

So odd that this would show up here today. I dreamt about Yogiji a few days
ago, he was comforting me. I felt comforted, very. He was holding me in a
very fatherly way.

The dream was very clear and lined up with my life which I am struggling
with at this point.

What it means? I don't know.

Satnaam ji - dandauth bandhana ji (prostration greetings) at your holy feet.

Baba Ji explained to me that God has no form , that is why we call him Nirankar meaning Formless.
So to come to us he takes the form of His beloved one.  So whichever Guru/Baba Ji is loved by you, will be the form Nirankar takes to reach you, to comfort you and most importantly to encourage you that you are doing well and to keep on going.   They mostly appear dressed in white to show that they are from the pure God.   We normally get these kind of dreams/visions either when we are at a very low point in our life and hence are praying very sincerely from the bottom of our soul and that prayer is being answered.  Or as we progress on the spiritual path we encouter many blessed souls in astral form.  They all come to bless us.  Baba Ji explained when we see these blessed souls, just do dandauth bandhana (lying flat greeting) at their holy feet (kar dandauth pun vada ha...doing dadnauth to the saint is a virtuous deed ..Guru Granth Sahib).   If they ask us what we would like, NEVER EVER ask for any worldy desire to be fulfilled, just put palms together in namaskar and say, "We just ask for the gift of naam(god's Name), Seva( selfless service) and Bandagi (loving devotional worship)."

When we are given visions of the Guru/Baba Ji's it does not mean we have reached our spiritual destination, they are blessing us to continue all the way to the Realm of Truth (Sach Khand).  We normally are blessed with these kind of vision in the Realm of Grace (Karam Khand).   We only enter into the Realm of Grace when we are blessed by God who is fully manifest in the heart of a saint.   A saint can bless us through an initiation ceremony, or without even us realising it.  You may go to a holy place and come back feeling different, feeling more connected to God and feeling blessed.  It wasn't the place that blessed you though, it was probably a saint who you walked past without even realising.  A saint who picked up on your sincere prayers over a long period of time thirsting for the vision of God.  So God who is formless comes to us in dreams of the saints/Gurus to reassure us and then physically leads us to Himself in the heart of a saint who will bless us with gurprasad of naam.

This is what I have learned from Baba Ji and experienced in this life with God's grace.

Indicators about one´s path...

FROM ANOTHER GROUP:

From: jose rodriguez <rocketrodz@yahoo.com>
To: Kundaliniyoga@yahoogroups.com
Sent: Friday, 9 January, 2009 13:51:36
Subject: Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Indicators about one´s path...

Sat Nam!

There is a Buddhist concept that shows us that to want enlightment is a big mistake.  The mind wants.  The Soul does not!

And above all that is God.

I have been told that it may only take just one Kriya, done right, to see the Light and to dance in Shabd.  Just one.  But nobody may prescribe a Kriya like we prescribe pain medicine or blood pressure medication.  That is why there are so many Kriyas, and why the Kundalini Yoga experience as taught, is just that, to present an experience.  The student, us, will then find the Kriya-key, perhaps after 1,000 days doing it at 4AM, perhaps after taking many 1,000 day-periods, then picking another one, and maybe, perhaps. But there is something esle above all that, and that is Grace.  The Grace of the Guru.  Lets not forget that.

Yogi Bhajan mentioned: "To be spiritual is to give and give, never to expect back, as clouds give rain and never come down to take the water back.  And your life exists on that giving.  There is nothing to learning to be spiritual; learn from the clouds that give you the light and the spirit of giving through their own drops of water which create huge vegetation for you."

The purpose of life is the present moment. Which ceases to exist the moment we think of it.  That is how I guide mine.  To live fully, every second of life. But on every second, to pay attention on how I am spreading wealth and joy to every sentient being.

Yogi Bhajan also said: "To know wisdom is nothing. To experience wisdom becomes knowledge. Then you can stand through the times."

Remember that we all bring different colors, shapes, forms and purposes upon trying to enter a Path.  But it does not matter for all paths take us to the same Principle.

breath is slipping away like water through our hands

IK OANKAAR SAT NAAM SATGUR PARSAAD

DHAN DHAN PAAR BRAHAM PARMESAR JI

DHAN DHAN GUR GURU SATGUR GURBANI SAT SANGAT SAT NAAM

GURU PYAREE SAT NAAM SAT SANGAT JEE:

KOTTAN KOT DANDAUT PARVAAN KARNA JEE

You are not a physical body, you are a soul, body is dependent on soul, soul is not dependent on body, soul operates the body, body doesn't operate the soul, soul is the prime source of energy and performance, body is just a media that is visible, whereas soul is not visible. This soul is the Karta, this is the super divine infinite power that is the Karta, as soon as this divine power is removed the body meets its end. So you are not a physical body, but you are only and only a soul. At the sametime please remember that the soul has to carry the weight of all your good and bad deeds, it has been doing so foreever and will continue to do so until all your dues are paid and the soul becomes weightless, that is what is called Jivan Mukti.

Our own website is full of all the divine wisdom in the form of these Gurparsaadee writings, but we sometimes wonder if any of you really read these writings, if so then many of you should already have been transformed, but is that the case?  probably not ! But there is one thing we can say for sure that anybody who reads these writings will transform for sure. There is no negative power that can stop this transformation. And the ones who give their Tunn Munn and Dhan to the Guru and don't look back and keep marching will for sure reach the Jivan Mukti. Most people are left in between, and continue to fall back and stand up, only the ones who give their Tunn Munn and Dhan to the Guru make it through this life. This will have to be done, weather it gets done in this life or next or may be next or so, but one thing is for sure, that this will have to be done.

Harjit jee have started publishing the Punjabi translations of these Gurparsaadee Writings as well. The Dasvandh given by the Sat Sangat is being spent in providing the Punjabi reading Sangat through these Punjabi translations. We will continue to use your Dasvandh for spreading this message of Sat Naam across the Globe. Your contributions are being accepted with the Gurparsaad and are priceless. The more you contribute the more rewarding it is for you. This is an essential element of the Puran Bandgi Process and is a Gurparsaad, so there is always an opportunity for you to take advantage of this divine opportunity.

dearest dassan das ji

dearest ik oankar satnaam ji
dearest  shabad guru siri guru granth sahib ji

you are right ji, we have been on this path for so long and everytime we have tried to do bhagti
we have fallen off the path.  With your kind kirpa you have picked us up so many times,
but we have fallen again and again and again, getting worse everytime.  Almost to the point where we
do not even want to get up again.  That is the story of this slanderer of the guru, this donkey mind that reads all the wisdom then goes and rolls around in the filth of maya again.

But with your kindness you have picked us up again and this time with your kindness we really feel that
we NEVER ever want to go back to rolling around in filth of maya, we really feel we are better of dead than
going back to following desires and getting slapped by maya.  We really feel if we lose family, friends, moeny,
property anything and everything, it is no sacrifice at all.  We really feel the love of god in the gurus lotus words of gurbani.
We pray they come inside us with such a force they rip apart all our illusions , all our lifetimes of bad karamas, all the hardened layers
of haumai we have built up.

We are not worthy of this seva, we are not worthy of any thing divine, we are a stubborn egotist who refuses to bow his head infront of the whole world, but whatever we are , we are yours.  We sit like a dog at your table waiting for crumbs of gurprasad, we dont need anything or anyone else now.  Please take everything we have, munn tun and dhan.  Please kill us completelty this time.  Please do not let us fall back again.

You are so kind, so humble, only you truly know what you are dassan das  satguru ji.   The katha of sukhmani sahib you have done, is katha of your self, the brahmgiani, the apras, the jan, the sadh,  it is all your katha.  We are so fortunate to have you with us.

Please do not let us waste any more time, breath is slipping away like water through our hands.

no power to live no power to die ...

satnaam satroop satguru ji , satsangat ji, dandauth bandhana ji

Dassan Das ji's articles stress many, many times that Karta Purakh is the One and Only Doer.

Really, a foolish and stupid sutubborn headed one like me cannot comprehend this.  If God is doing everything then  how can we chose what we do?  "Karmi apo apanee ke neray ke dhoor ..our deeds are our own, some go closer to God some go further away?"  Guru Nanak Dev Ji in Jap Ji.

So this week with guru ji's kirpa we have been trying to hard to do more simran , amritvela (early morning rising), giving daswand (tenth) and bringing in good qualities.  But again this stupid and sutbborn donkey mind of mine has been hitting a brick wall. Getting irritable and shouting at family due to lack of patience - bringing in good qualities is not easy for an egotist like me.

Yesterday with guru ji's blessings we resolved not to get angry and shout at family no matter how many times the little one says, "NO! NO! NO!" when we ask her to do something we want but she doesnt want.  We resolved to say it once and let it go upto God, but shouting is no longer allowed (it did work, she changed her mind in her own time).  Also on the way home, yesterday God reminded us of the shabad Akhan Jor from JapJi sahib, we read this parrot fashion for over 20 years almost every day and never truly understood it.  But yesterday it started making more sense, which we would like to share with the sangat what we understood (you may understand it differently , that is fine too)

akhan jor chupay na jor
jor na mangan deh na jor
jor na jeevan maran na jor
jor na raaj mal man sor
jor na surti gian vichar
jor na jugti shutay sansar
jis hath jor kar vekhay soi
nanak utam necha na koi.

First of all I always read it like Guru Nanak Dev ji was telling me that we have no power to speak or not, no power to live or die, no power to beg or donate, no power to rule with maya headaches, no power to understand the divine wisdom, no power to find the method to escape maya.  Only God has the power in his hands, Nanak says that no one is high or low.

But as I with gurus blessings, was singing it with love , the realisation came that it wasn't a distant Guru Nanak telling me about a far off God, like a preacher standing at the front of the congregation telling us about God's glory.  No, this time it felt like my own soul who was telling me something.  My soul through these words was telling me that it had the real power.  It was the divine power source.  If the soul power wasnt there I wouldnt be able to do anything at all - not speak, not stay silent, not beg or give, not live or die, not understand divine wisdom or find any methods to reach God.  My own soul was telling me that it had the real divine power and it is , was and will always be watching me.

So our very personal God, Karta Purakh, our own soul has all the divine power, and because of that power we can function in the world.  But, when we function without any recognition of the true power running us we are living in the illusion of ego.  And in ego we do the deeds that take us away from God - further away from realising this soul power inside us.  However, doing simran means we are making efforts to remember this divine soul power within us.   By remembering that Truth we go closer to God , the one and Only Doer within us.

This morning before doing simran Guru enabled me to acknowledge that this soul is the real power without whom "I" cannot do anything.  That all our simran and bhagti (devotion) was due to Gur Prasad - god's grace.  That Gurprasad was pulling us to realise our soul, pulling us out of ego running in maya's terrible mind ocean.  And simran was good, much more peaceful and much more enjoyable.

And in my day, if I acknowledge this divine life force in the food I eat, in the people I meet and in all of nature, then that is Simran, that is remembrance of the Truth that "Sat Naam Karta Purakh" is the one and Only Doer, not me, not my ego, not my HAU-MAI ("I"-"ME").

thankyou for reading,
