Guru is always and forever with you.
Your Guru's relationship with you is an eternal relationship and takes you into the dargah (God's Realm of Truth) and you merge in the nirgun saroop (Pure Form).
The yard stick is your trust, devotion, love and how much you give to the Gur (God) and Guru in terms of body, mind and wealth. When you give yourself completely then God becomes yours completely - there remains no difference.
