Preeto's reply to a very disheartened and confused K ji after he had about things Kabir ji had written which seemed to contradict what Baba Nanak ji has written.
Preeto: Satnaam, nice to hear from you again K ji. When we are troubled firstly call upon dear Satnaam Satguru ji by putting ourhands together and praying "pls help us to understand."
The trouble we had when we too were relying on historical texts to find the Truth, was there is too much contradiction and confusion, and that's just within Sikhism itself! Then we looked on the internet and still Muslims and Christians are arguing if Jesus really did have a virgin birth and that happened over 2000 years ago but still people debate it! We realised unless we can ask the past Satguru ourself we will never really know the truth from just stories and texts purportedly written by them or with their approval by their so called close ones.
So we decided one text we are 100% sure is accurate is Guru Granth Sahib so we only follow what that says. And those things supposedly written by Kabir Ji are not in Gurbani. But still even in Gurbani there are many different interpretations so people like myself found it confusing, so we started praying for a living teacher who we can ask a simple question to and get a simple answer for us right here right now as per the time and place we are born into. Just as past teachers have their teachings to those around them.
So by trusting in what Dassan Dass ji and SatNaam Baba ji have taught us out confusion has all been cleared, and our mind relaxed and the door to our heart opened.
So the best thing to learn from historical texts wether it's about Jesus ji or Kabir ji or Nanak ji is that they found the Truth in the company of living teachers of their time as well as in the case of Baba Nanak ji being unable to find a living teacher prayed so deeply that Satnaam ji became his Satguru directly. Same thing happened with Baba ji.

Many thanks for the helpful e-mail. I really appreciate the time and effort you took in helping me to understand correctly. You have pointed out several things that are very helpful. The main thing you helped me to remember is that I am so very blessed to have a wonderful Guru, just as you are blessed with Baba ji and Dassan Dass ji. My main concern should be in emulating my Guru's beautiful virtues. And also remembering that if I am pleasing my Guru, then all is going very well! Getting caught up in things that cause confusion is just proof that I need to focus more intently on my Guru and the path that he has laid out for me to follow. It is very easy to get side-tracked and then it is no wonder that confusion follows.
