forgive a murderer

Satnaam, here is a reply I sent to my firend who attended his Dad's murder trial yesterday:
==============

satnaam Veer ji,

it must be difficult, just remember though that even though people look for worldly justice and then get infuriated when they dont get the sentence they wanted, just remember that no-one escapes God's Justice. That is called Karma, everyone has to pay their dues, whatever someone has done to another happens back to them. Karma is the reason we are born, to repay our dues and to receive what was owed to us. Whatever happened between your dad and his murderer was their Karma, and their story will carry on over lifetimes. Your karma is your own. You going to court and going through the trial etc and every interaction you have with every single person is you playing out your karma. Dont get lost in the illusion that the wordly courts can give you or your family any peace of mind. Peace of mind comes from one thing and one thing only, when you pass up your troubles and worries, your hopes and your fears , you pass them all up to SatNaam SatGuru. Peace of mind comes when you tell your mind these 3 magic words, "LET IT GO". And how do you let it go a) you accept that God's Justice the murderer cannot escape and he will get his dues in this lifetime or the next until he learns his lesson. And b) you forgive the murderer for what he has done.

Even thinking about forgiving him will not be what your mind wants, the mind wants JUSTICE. However the anger and hurt that drives those thoughts of gaining justice, still will not give you any peace even after the trial is over.  Forgiving others is not really for the other person, it is a way of making your mind LET IT GO, of releasing you from the anger and the hurt.

Forgiving others and then even praying for the others gives you more and more peace. IT opens up your heart and connects you to the LOVE and COMPASSION within you.

Even the murderer has the spark of God in him, and we pray for him to also be free of the hell his own 5 thieves have brought him into. On this path sometimes the greatest murderers and prostitutes and sinners become the greatest saints ..like the story of Sajjan Tug the murderer and robber who was reformed by the prayer of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Leave justice upto God, Forgive and pray for the murderer to be blessed by SatNaam SatGuru so he too can be free of the hell he is in and the hellish actions he did.

dust of your feet

Harjit
